I’m sure nobody’s reading the comments on this episode by now since it’s a few weeks out, but there’s no law (federal, state or local) in the US where it’s illegal to count cards. In fact, in New Jersey (primarily aimed at Atlantic City), state law forbids casinos from banning people who are found to be card-counters. The only thing most casinos can do is use legally allowed counter-measures to trip up card counters (shuffling right after a counter bets, adding a deck or a “shoe” in the middle of a hand, etc.)
